There is that ever-prevalent question though – which AI image generator tool to use? Especially so, when there is a sea of AI tools out there, and countless rivers are pouring in new ones every day. For image generation, specifically, this article will list the top 7 tools I’ve used personally, what I liked and disliked about them, and which one you should use based on your requirements.
So, without further ado, here are the top 7 AI tools I’ve personally used and liked so far, of course, completely free of cost. There is one that I personally loved during this trial. I’ve listed that at the end.
To assess the capabilities of all the different image generators out in the market, we tried the following prompt:
“A vintage car parked in front of a super-modern building in the middle of a desert, with a lake in the background”
The image generators were judged on several parameters, including the image quality, the accuracy of the results, and of course, whether they are free or not. With that, here are our top 7 picks among the lot.
Healthy Tip: Before we start, note that AI image generators provide you with ample options to customise your image as required. You can control the number of images generated per prompt, the size and orientation of these images, as well as choose your preferred image styles from a long list of options. So, for the best results, make sure you adjust these settings before you hit “Generate.”
Microsoft is making the best of its gigantic investments in OpenAI years ago. Powering almost every Microsoft tool today is Copilot, the tech giant’s AI-powered companion that is taking the world by storm. Its relevance here lies in its image generation capabilities. For absolutely free, Copilot AI image generator lets you create stunningly realistic images perfect for all use-cases you can possibly imagine.
Copilot employs a conversational approach to image generation. For instance, the AI automatically suggests the next prompts based on your conversation so far. This means you can generate as well as tweak your images as you go. Many who are just starting out, or haven’t really used AI tools before, will find this especially useful.
How to Access: Simply head on to the Copilot website or call on Microsoft on your Edge browser and get going.
Google has been one of the frontrunners ever since the AI race began. Image generation is not an exception, with Google’s Gemini giving a mighty fight to all the competition out there. For the prompt we used, Gemini had a whole new take with its image. As you can see, its output to the prompt is completely on-point and hyper-realistic, something only a handful of other AI image generators can boast of.
Google mentions the reason for this. It says that Gemini comes with “Deep Contextual Awareness,” which grasps relationships and context within a prompt, and not just the keywords, as most other AI engines do. This allows it to understand the nuances of even the most complex prompts. Couple this with its ability to edit images conversationally (not unique), and you’ve got just the perfect AI image generators in your hands.
How to Access: You can visit the Gemini website or call on Gemini right through the Google homepage on any browser. Simply click on the grid box next to your profile name and click on Gemini.
Another significant mention on the list, DeepAI has been a player in the AI race for just short of a decade now. Its text-to-image generator has been popular for long now. What you will notice instantly is that DeepAI models are often simpler and older compared to top-tier platforms like OpenAI and Stability AI. While that means a tad bit less realistic images than the competition, images produced by DeepAI in no way lack quality or accuracy.
You can check out the result here by yourself and be the judge. Our take – DeepAI can do wonders for your image generation requirements if used properly.
How to Access: You can visit the DeepAI website and select their text-to-image tool from their homepage. Or simply click here to access it directly.

Originally a chatbot from the house of Alibaba, Tongyi Qianwen, popular as Qwen, has now evolved to produce images, videos, code, do deep research, analyze images, and perform a host of other tasks for any and every professional requirement. Think of it as China’s response to Western dominance in the AI race. With Qwen at the helm, image generation is definitely not a suit where Chinese AI falls behind. The AI is able to churn out images so incredibly vivid and accurate, it becomes outright impossible to rank it lower than any competition.
Interesting fact – Qwen supports 100 languages, making it accessible to a global audience for generating images.
How to Access: Simply head on to Qwen AI and write your prompt for the image. Tip – It will probably ask you to log in repeatedly, so you might want to do the same right from the start.
There is one clear winner, at least for me, here, especially based on the prompt used, and considering we are only concerned with free AI image generators. In addition to being super realistic and accurate, the image generated by Mage.Space was highly detailed. One look at it and you instantly see the nuances it has managed to capture from the prompt, and generate an image just as perfectly.
Case in point, this is probably the only output in the list that even shows the number plate of the car. Now that is the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that you expect from a leading AI tool.
How to Access: You can head over to mage.space and get started with your image generation right away.
As they say, if you don’t evolve with time, you will fall behind for sure. This is even more true in the case of image generation than anything else. AI image generators have gone far beyond the capabilities of average humans. Unless you are an ace graphics designer, chances are, your AI will produce better, tailored images than you can ever come up with yourself.
With that in mind, treat them as a highly advanced tool, and not competition. Once you learn the ways of AI for image generation, there is no going back.
